Some People Are Gay, Get Over IT!!!

After my time at the Uni Open Day, Chris and I decided that we would go for a walk along the River Irwell.

Everything was going well. We decided to pop into Lowry Outlet to go to the toilet and to get a drink, and a group of lads decided to shout 'Queens' at us.

It's sad to say, but verbal abuse is quite common, but you just have to plod on and not let it worry you. However, it does make me giggle that these people have to wait until they are so far away before hurling the abuse.

Thinking we have had a daily dose of abuse we headed home.

Just before we got onto the estate, we decided that we would go to Sainsbury's to get something for tea. In the process of doing this we had to go past about a dozen teenagers, who unfortunately were failing to drown themselves in the canal basin.

After passing them the next thing I knew was a stone had just past me. I turned round to find them throwing stones. Next thing we heard was them starting to call us 'faggots'. Three of the stones hit Chris so decided, for the first time ever, to call the police and report the attack.

It's nice to see that our education has taught these kids well.

What makes it more annoying is that the kids live on our estate and have previously called us 'faggots' when we have drove past in the car.

So I can safely say, at the moment I am not entirely comfortable on the estate!!!

'Kylie' Bad Taste Bear in Production

At the end of last year I wrote a blog about how a 'Kylie' Bad Taste Bear should be produced. After entering (and losing) a competition where I designed the bear, I ask Pete to draw me a proper Kylie sketch, which he did and I love.

At the time, there was a chance that the bear could go into production after receiving positive reviews from the Company.

A month or so back, a poll was done on the BTB forum to get peoples views on the sketch and it received an very positive response (phew!!!). This then built my hopes up that it may just go into production.

I had a look at the Bad Taste Bears Blog today and found out that the Kylie bear is in production and is due to be released as part of a music mini-range. The blog also contained pictures of the bear in production:

It appears that the name for the bear is going to be Charlene after her Neighbours character.

Let's just say, I am a little bit pleased. Now I can't wait for it to be released so I can buy a couple.

UPDATE: 25 June 2009
I completed version of the Charlene bear has been added to the BTB Blog and I have to say it's one of the best they have released. But I would say that wouldn't I?

If interested the Bad Taste Bears blog, Behind the Scenes; has done 3 blogs about how a bear is born. You can see them here.

Job Wanted!!!

At the end of last month I was given my letter to confirm that I am being made redundant at the end of July. Although I have known since November, it felt kinda weird receiving the letter. It really made it all official.

Part of the redundancy support, we are given two days off a week to sort our CV and apply for jobs, which is really useful and nice for the company to do. However, I did have to fight for these days off.

As I am going to uni, I was told that I wasn't entitled to the days off.

I had to explain that I need to find a job to support myself through uni or I couldn't go. I felt like I was being discriminated against for going into further education.

I understand the arguments from both sides, however I have to be selfish here and think of myself. And it worked, as I have been given the days off to look for a new job.

So first things first, is to write up my CV. I had thought the current one would just need a bit of tweaking as it was only done last year. Turns out it will need to be a full re-write. The joy!!!

I have also been looking at available retail jobs, but there doesn't seem to be that much available in the city centre. Ideally I don't want to work all evenings and weekends, but I may have to. We shall see.
